FRIDAY - Final Fridays - Halloween on the Square - 6pm to 10pm; The Nelsonville Historic Arts District and Final Fridays on the Square are putting out a CALL FOR ZOMBIES to descend on Nelsonville's Public Square on Friday, October 28th at 6:00pm. We are looking for all kinds of undead: adults, kids, babies, pets, grandparents, and anyone else who is hungry for brains. The monthly Final Fridays on the Square will be overrun by the undead in celebration of Halloween weekend! Zombies can begin arriving any time after 6:00pm and should meet up by the fountain in the center of the square with a special Nelsonville Zombiewalk taking place at 7:30pm and leaving from the fountain. We are hoping to make this zombie takeover of Nelsonville an annual occurrence, so please help us spread the word! Tell your friends, family, and co-workers and get them to come out and fill our historic town square with the undead. There will also be a costume contest in the opera house at 8:30pm! Cash prizes for best costume, ages 16 and over.

SUNDAY - Annual Halloween Parade - 2pm; Parade line-up begins at 1:30 pm at the PNC Bank drive-through parking lot and gets underway promptly at 2 pm. Parade travels west on Main Street, turns left on Spring Street, turns left on Second Street, turns left on Market Street and ends at the gazebo in Worthington Park. Parade participants will receive a candy bar and there will be costume judging. Prizes awarded in four costume categories: prettiest, scariest, funniest, and most original. Each costume category will include four age ranges with three winners chosen in each age group of each category. Are groups are: 0-4 yrs old; 5-10 yrs old; 11-15 yrs old; 16 and over. Through October - "THROUGH THE LENS"; Tenth of twelve monthly exhibits for 2011. This exhibit will feature the work of the Hocking Valley Photography Group that meets at the Bowen House, under the mentorship of Dennis Savage, and will include fall themed photos, both black/white and color. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays at 11:30 am and 1 pm, and Sundays and holidays by appointment. There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. SATURDAY - Empty Bowls - 11am to 3pm; Empty Bowls returns to Hocking County to fight hunger as part of the 21st annual Make a Difference Day Festivities. The local fundraiser will occur at Central Elementary School, 40 North Street. Area potters donate handmade bowls for the special event, which features soup, dessert and a drink for a $10 donation per person. The bowl is a keepsake to take home for people to remember to continue the fight against hunger in Hocking County all year long. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business.
