FRIDAY - Little Cities Redbud Tour - 9am to 5pm; Starting in Shawnee's Historic District, join us for a heritage/environmental tour when the redbuds and dogwoods bloom. The tour will include a picnic lunch and boat ride at Burr Oak Park. FRIDAY through SUNDAY - 11th Annual Shoot the Hills Photography Contest - Contest starts Friday at 1pm; All photographers are invited to join Ohio's largest photo contest, Shoot the Hills. Held annually in the Hocking Hills Region (Ohio), the contest primarily promotes nature photography. More than $5,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to winners at the conclusion of the 3-day photography event. The contest is open to pros and amateurs alike, but digital entries must be captured within a specified 24-hour period (from 12:00 pm (noon) on April 20 to 12:00 pm (noon) on April 21). Digital entries must also have been made within the four-county coverage area of the Hocking Hills Region. Registration for contest is $35 - $45; other events are free. SATURDAY - 2012 Trillium Festival - 10:30am; Appalachia Ohio Alliance, a land conservancy serving SE Ohio invite you to "Mathias Grove" to celebrate 10 years of AOA service. Arrive at 10:30 for a morning hike. Bring a dish for the Potluck at 12:30pm. At 1pm there will be a speaker and special presentation followed by a 1:30pm hike. A $20 tax deductible donation is suggested to assist AOA in protecting more of southeastern Ohio hill country. SATURDAY - A Victorian Tea at Ravenwood Castle - 2pm to 4pm; Ladies, just like when you were little, it's time to play dress-up! Put on your finest attire, with all the accessories and we'll pretend it's 1864. You'll be entertained with a visit by the beautifully costumed "Lady Penelope Hyde" from London, England. Lady Penelope, portrayed by Rebecca Nobile of Wellston, will talk about her life in Victorian London, and instruct us in "the language of the fan," and proper etiquette for proper Victorian ladies. The menu will feature delicacies such as tea sandwiches, cream puffs, petit fours and other goodies, plus assorted teas. SATURDAY, May 19th - Writing Workshop -Have you ever wanted to write a novel but don't know where to begin? Sherry Hartzler, author of Three Moons over Sedona and Island Passage, will guide you through those first pages of your novel. Learn how to grab the reader's attention in that first paragraph. Create "hooks" that make your novel a real "page turner." Sherry will conduct a workshop, Great Beginnings, on Saturday, May 19th at 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. The cost of this workshop will be $10.00, and the workshop will be limited to 25 people so reserve your spot today. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
