FRIDAY, January 25th - Wonders of Old Man's Cave - 2pm; Meet the Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist at the Naturalist's Cabin located behind the Old Man's Cave Visitor Center for a short hike, and discover some facts about the history of the area and the rock formations that are found throughout the park. FRIDAY, January 25th - Final Fridays - FIRE & ICE - 5pm to 9pm; For the first Final Friday of 2013, the Hocking College Culinary Arts program will present Master Ice Carver Paul Ahrens, from Precise Ice Creations. Ahrens and the Culinary Arts students will carve blocks of ice located throughout the Square weighing a total of 6,000 pounds - three tons of ice! The Hocking College Epicurean Club will also serve warm cider, hot cocoa, cookies and flambeed desserts! Other "Fire & Ice" themed activities, fire barrels and fire performers will be located throughout the Square. At 6pm, the Logan Superstars will twirl fire batons; and adult fire performers will start at 7 & 8pm. And - bonus - there will be a Diamond Band/Ring Giveaway! SATURDAY, January 26th - Winter Hike at Clear Creek Metro Park - 10am; Choose to hike 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7 miles through the forest and fields of Clear Creek Metro Park. Enjoy hot soup and beverages at the Park Office after your hike. Earn a patch by completing 7 Metro Parks winter hikes in 2013!

SUNDAY, January 27th - Tecumseh Theater Fundraiser with acoustic rock singer Chris Logsdon - 5pm; Tecumseh Commons is featuring acoustic rock singer Chris Logsdon performing cover songs from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The show starts at 5PM with the doors opening at 4PM. Come hungry and thirsty because we'll have lots of food and plenty of cold beer. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Jan 15 (Tue) Comic Storytelling and Techniques

6-8pm. Week 2. High School and Adult students. Instructor:

Charles Naaman McFarland. Explore ways to tell stories through

the exciting medium of comics. We will explore how to make

comics, and how different illustration techniques contribute to the

storytelling process. Through six weeks we will see how writing and

illustration can be explosively combined into an effective comic

story. Some topics to be explored: Writing and Storytelling,

Drawing and Ink, Pacing and Timing.

Jan 15 (Tue) Designated Space at Donkey Coffee

9 pm. Every Tuesday night the stage is open for Designated Space,

Donkey's own poetry, prose, and spoken word open stage. This

and writings or some fun entertainment.

Jan 15 (Tue) Tai Chi Classes at Alley Park

6:30-7:30 beginners. 7:30-8:30pm advanced. If you are looking

for a way to reduce stress, consider tai chi (TIE-CHEE). Originally

developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form

of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of

other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion,

tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai

chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that involves a series of

movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied

by deep breathing.

Remarkable Menagerie, an exhibition involving animals in art. For

Jan 16 (Wed) Drawing I - from the Right Side of the Brain

5:30-7:30pm. 8 weeks - Wednesday Evening. Always wanted to

learn how to draw? Drawing is a skill that you can learn even if you

believe yourself to be untalented. Based upon the exercises of

Berry Edwards Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, this course

will give you confidence and help you break out of old visual habits

so you can see draw what is actually in front of you. The course will

touch on the basics; line drawing, perspective, proportion, negative

space, light and shade. Instruction: Roberta Donnenwirth, BFA, has

over 30 years of professional art experience including teaching.

Students will receive a large sketch pad and drawing pencil kit to

Jan 16 (Wed) General W. T.Sherman Memorial Civil War Roundtable

7pm. Professor Leonne Hudson of Kent State University will talk

about the reaction of black soldiers to the assassination of

President Abraham Lincoln. Professor Hudson received his B.A. at

Voorhees College and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Kent State

University. His specialty is 19th century U.S. history. His research

interests include the Mexican War and the Civil War era,

particularly the military contributions of black troops to the Union

effort. The Gen. William T. Sherman Memorial Civil War Roundtable

meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month (does not

meet months of June, July, August and December). The CWRT

promotes interest in the American Civil War and the rich history

surrounding it. The CWRT members meet to study all aspects of

the Civil War. A social time, refreshments, and a meet-and-greet

are featured at each meeting. Everyone is welcome. For further

5:30-7:30pm. 10 weeks - Thursday Evening. This class is for

people who have had some experience in drawing and want to

hone their skills. The skill set needed by students are the same

gained in "Drawing I"-line, negative space, perspective, proportion,

and will go into different grades of drawing pencils, shading,

format, contrast, composition. The instructional fee for this course

is $150.00. Students are to acquire their own materials which

place for folks to come and share their favorite songs. Filled to

Jan 17 (Thu) Beginning Wheel Throwing for Adults

6-8pm. 8 weeks - Thursday Evening. This class is designed for

either beginners or students that have had limited experience in

throwing on the wheel. In eight sessions, students will learn basic

throwing techniques and a variety of different thrown forms.

Instructor: Kelly Shaw, a local potter. BFA in ceramics - Ohio

University and residency at the Genesee Center for the Arts in

Jan 18 (Fri) Metro Five-O: Level 4 Ice Cave Back Country Hike

10am. Enjoy a rugged 3.5-mile off trail hike to the Ice Cave. Age

50 and older. The hike will be about 3.5-miles and will last about

2.5-hours, perhaps considerably longer if there is snow on the

trails. The terrain is rugged and likely to be slippery. Please wear

appropriate clothing and footwear. Bring drinking water. We do not

have drinking water available at the park. Please also bring trail

snacks if you may need them. If you have any further questions or

concerns please call the Clear Creek naturalist office at

740-969-9001. Ages 50+. Not wheelchair accessible.

Jan 19 (Sat) 48th Annual Winter Hike at Hocking Hills

9-11 am continuous starts from the Old Man's Cave Visitor's

Center. More than 5,000 outdoor enthusiasts will participate in the

Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike. Hikers should assemble at

Hocking Hills State Park Campground at any time from 9 a.m. to

11 a.m. The Winter Hike and all pre-hike and post-hike activities

are free. Donations are encouraged for the refreshments, and for

story of Rosemary Saint-John who is a loud, annoying

DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
