TONIGHT, July 25th - "History in a Hole" at Hocking County Historical Society & Museums  - 7pm; Lewis Noah is an amateur historian archeologist who has been involved in dig sites on three continents, as well as several states in this country.  His latest involvement was with ninety other people at the site of General Phillip Sheridan's boyhood home in Somerset, Ohio.  The dig's goal, according to Mr. Noah, was to answer a  question. FRIDAY, July 26TH  - Music in the Park - Hickory Wind - 7pm to 8:30pm; Summer concert series in its 21st season features eleven weeks of live music at the gazebo in Worthington Park in Logan, every Friday evening from June through mid-August. Bring lawn chairs as bench seating is limited. Food & beverages for sale in the park or bring your own picnic basket. No alcohol permitted. Portable restroom on site. SATURDAY, July 27th & SUNDAY, July 28th - William McKinley Camp 21 Civil War Encampment - Sat 10am to 9pm; Sun 10am to 3pm; Tour a Civil War encampment and hear about life and weaponry of the time from costumed interpreters.  The Sherman Cannon will be on display and will be fired at 1pm both days.  Encampment is located adjacent to Olde Dutch Restaurant in Rempel's Grove, State Route 664 South.  Open to the public and FREE.

SATURDAY, July 27th  - Trek Theatre: featuring Timberwolves  - Gate opens at 5:30pm; Trek Theatre presents live blue grass every Saturday night from June 22nd through August 31st.  Authentic Shawnee Storytelling begins at 6:15 P.M.  Bluegrass performances begin around 7:00 P.M.  Nestled in the pines alongside a forest trail and flowing stream, Trek Theatre is the most unique outdoor solo performance venue in Ohio. SATURDAY, July 27th - Lonesome Will Mullins & the Virginia Playboys - 7pm;  Lonesome Will makes a return trip to Logan!  He comes from a house that was filled with family musicians and plenty of bluegrass, old time, and country music.   He learned to play banjo and guitar as a teenager, joining several bands while honing his trade by studying the works of bluegrass legends like Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, and Dr. Ralph Stanley.  Also influenced by Jerry Lee Lewis, he mixes traditional bluegrass music with a breathtakingly energetic stage show.  Will's shows are jam-packed with hard driving bluegrass, old time clawhammer banjo and gospel music.  At the gazebo in Worthington Park, corner of Market and Main Streets in Historic Downtown Logan.

SATURDAY, July 27th - Flaming Torchlight Canoe Trip - 7pm; Night time on the Hocking River is magical, and nothing is more exciting than experiencing it by torchlight: flickering flames reflecting on rippling water, golden eyes blinking from surrounding trees, all bathed in a surreal, golden glow. SATURDAY, July 27th - It's Opening Night!  Logan Theatre Group presents the "Barber of Seville" - 8pm; A four act farcical drama by Pierre-Augustin Beaumarchais, performed and published in 1775 as The Barber of Seville or, The Useless Precaution.  Barber of Seville is a classic masterpiece as it presents the anxiousness of the characters to reach their goals through comic means, making the play attention-grabbing, compelling and entertaining in a carefree way.  It was the basis of the 1816 opera.  Cost:  $15 per person.  Performance is outside, rain or shine; lawn chairs recommended.  Advance reservations can be made by calling (740) 583-9475 or e-mail the logantheatregroup@gmail.com.  Performance Location:  on the lawn of The Bowen House,  196 N. SATURDAY, July 27th - The Bob Steward Band and Greg Bikowski - 8pm; at Uncle Bucks Riding Stable and Dance Barn to benefit Community Food Initiatives and Rural Action.   The suggested donation for this event is $3.00 with proceeds to benefit both organizations.  Greg Bikowski will kick off the night with a solo performance at 8pm with The Bob Stewart Band playing at 9pm. SATURDAY, August 10th - Saint's Sinners & Cemeteries - 8:30am coffee at Fullbrooks, tour begins at 9am, ends around 5pm; The Little Cities of Black Diamonds Council will bring stories of the region to life on Saturday, August 10 with a day-long guided tour of the region titled "Saints, Sinners and Cemeteries!"  The tour will bring to life inspiring tales of bravery surrounding union organizing and the breaking of the color barrier by Hocking Valley miners over a century ago which are mixed with eyebrow raising tales of the rough side of mining town life.  Whether  saint or sinner, many of the rich characters of this storied era are buried in hillside cemeteries that will be visited along with historic buildings and sites that also tell a story of the modern day battle between restoration and decay in the former boom mining towns of southeastern Ohio. The day will include living history characters who will bring the story to life in first person narrative.  Access to sites and buildings not available to the general public will be featured. NOW through September 1st - Over the Rainbow - Glass Across the Color Spectrum - 1pm to 4pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays; This exhibit features a rainbow of colors throughout the exhibition of vintage and art glass and a private A collection of Bischoff Glass Companys handblown glass. The plant was located in Culloden, WV. The company opened there in 1922 and was operated by the family until the late 1960s.Various other handblown American glass manufacturers will display other rainbow colors of glass. Along with the exhibit there will be glass pieces designed by local handblown artists from our surrounding area. These artists will rotate their artistic pieces throughout the duration of the exhibition that will continue through September 1, 2013. SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS through October 27th - Hocking Valley Scenic Railway Historic Train Rides - noon and 2:30pm; Our Noon train to Haydenville is the shortest trip of our trains. It operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day weekend and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. On the return trip after pausing in Haydenville, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. After a 30-minute stop at Robbins Crossing, the train returns to the Nelsonville Depot.   Duration of ride: Approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.  Our East Logan train is the longest of the regular weekend trains and operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. Along the way, we will pass through the historic company town of Haydenville, which was the last company town in Ohio. It was once part of a large brick and clay company known in its later days as NATCO. On the return trip to Nelsonville after pausing at the east end of Logan, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. NOW through September 1st - Over the Rainbow - Glass Across the Color Spectrum - 1pm to 4pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays; This exhibit features a rainbow of colors throughout the exhibition of vintage and art glass and a private A collection of Bischoff Glass Companys handblown glass. The plant was located in Culloden, WV. The company opened there in 1922 and was operated by the family until the late 1960s.Various other handblown American glass manufacturers will display other rainbow colors of glass. Along with the exhibit there will be glass pieces designed by local handblown artists from our surrounding area. These artists will rotate their artistic pieces throughout the duration of the exhibition that will continue through September 1, 2013. SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS through October 27th - Hocking Valley Scenic Railway Historic Train Rides - noon and 2:30pm; Our Noon train to Haydenville is the shortest trip of our trains. It operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day weekend and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. On the return trip after pausing in Haydenville, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. After a 30-minute stop at Robbins Crossing, the train returns to the Nelsonville Depot.   Duration of ride: Approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.  Our East Logan train is the longest of the regular weekend trains and operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. Along the way, we will pass through the historic company town of Haydenville, which was the last company town in Ohio. It was once part of a large brick and clay company known in its later days as NATCO. On the return trip to Nelsonville after pausing at the east end of Logan, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. SATURDAYS - Rappelling Trek - 10am; For mainstream climbers, rappelling is simply "the way down." For adventurous thrill seekers and first time visitors to the Hocking Hills it's an adrenaline rush unlike anything else. On the day of your rappelling trek, our expert guides walk you through the basics of safety, equipment, setup, technique and use of rappel devices. You'll begin on 20 to 30 foot walls and move to higher ground. Many first timers conquer Amazing Grace at 80' and some do Big Springs at 107' or Bent Tree at 120'. The experience is awesome. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
