Thursday & Friday Fall Foliage Train Rides
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, 33 Canal Street, Nelsonville, 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.
Take a leisurely trip on a passenger train dating back to the 1920s. Hear about Hocking Valley history as you pass the remains of industries, canal locks and other historic landmarks. The trip covers 22 miles roundtrip and stops for 30 minutes at a pioneer log village (Robbins Crossing) before returning to the depot. Grandma Gatewood's Fall Colors Hike
Old Man's Cave Visitors Center, Hocking Hills State Park, State Route. 664 South, Logan, 1 p.m.
Bring along a cool drink and celebrate the season's colors. Meet with the naturalist at the Old Man's Cave Visitor Center for a strenuous hike that spans roughly 6 miles of the Grandma Gatewood trail. We will be traversing the section that runs from Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls and back while enjoying the scenic beauty and cultural personality. This hike does include several hills and steps and is not recommended for the easily-winded individuals. (approx. 3-4 hours.) Call 740-385-6841 for more information; FREE

Tombstone Travels - 5th Annual
Logan Central Elementary parking lot, Logan, tours at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.
For the fifth consecutive year, costumed guides take those who dare through the Old Logan Cemetery, the community's very first burial ground. Ghost-seekers will hear spooky tales about those who are laid to rest at the inactive gravesite performances along the way.

Some of the interesting individuals you will meet include: Charles Keynes who established Keynes Mills; Flavius Case (an early druggist in the community; Jennie O. Cherrington, 2nd wife of Dr. Cherrington who established Cherrington Hospital; Dr. Charles Lyons - Logan sportsman and dentist; William Woodard, furniture store owner & funeral director; Nellie Allen Adams, daughter of Dr. Allen and piano teacher in Logan; and Winfield Poston - first Director of Farmers & Merchants Bank and owner of some 1200 acres.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser
Bowen House Community Center, 196 N. Market St. Logan, 4 - 6 p.m.
This annual United Way event serves as a fundraiser to help fight hunger in Hocking County. Travelers are invited to this happy hour event where they will enjoy wine, appetizers and dessert, in addition to their own locally crafted bowl. American Legion Baked Steak Dinner

An Evening with Jonathan Edwards, McGuffey Lane and Grassinine

Connect Ohio presents its annual CABI Fund benefit concert, featuring Jonathan Edwards, McGuffey Lane, and Grassinine at Stuart's Opera House for a community fundraiser. The performers all have ties and commitment to helping Appalachian Ohioans, and are teaming up to host a benefit concert to support the CABI Fund. All proceeds benefit the Connect Appalachia Broadband Initiative Fund and will provide computers and technology connectivity to low-income Appalachian Ohio areas in need. Halloween on the Hocking

AOA is joining with The Canal Society of Ohio to help sponsor a guided bus tour and field trip along the historic Hocking Canal route in Hocking and Fairfield Counties. This event, "Going Up the Hocking Canal - Logan to Carroll", is the annual fall outing of the Canal Society which visits the Hocking Hills this year.

Saturday features a day-long bus tour, guided by and narrated by Dave Meyer, with eight featured sights. SATURDAY - Lancaster Farmers Market - 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays in Government Services Parking Lot, 239 W Main St.; The Lancaster Farmers Market has more than 30 vendors throughout the season, which spans May to October. Each week our farmers and artisans bring a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, crafts, meat, flowers, eggs, and more.  The market takes place rain or shine. Dogs are welcome, but should be on a leash.  Some of our vendors accept Ohio Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons. The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens hosts an exhibit of some of the most prestigious art quilters in the country, all of whom served as jurors for the past 19 biennial exhibitions. SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS through October 26 - Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad, Nelsonville, 2:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.; The Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad's East Logan train is the longest of the regular weekend trains. It departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. Along the way, we will pass through the historic company town of Haydenville, which was the last company town in Ohio. It was once part of a large brick and clay company known in its later days as NATCO. On the return trip to Nelsonville after pausing at the east end of Logan, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. After a 30-minute stop at Robbins Crossing, the train returns to the Nelsonville Depot. COST: $17 adults, $12 children.

DAILY through October 26 - Starbrick Cooperative Gallery features the fiber art of Judy Klaer Kerns and the ceramic art of Laurie Vancouver.  Stay warm and cozy this winter with felted hats, knitted scarves and soft knitted socks or enjoy slow cooked meals made in beautiful ceramic casserole dishes. Open Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon - 5 p.m. Open until 10 p.m. on Final Fridays.

DAILY - Walker Farm's Pumpkins & Gourds - Enjoy a day at The Walker Farm. Pick your own pumpkins and gourds or choose from the ones we have set out for you. We also have corn shocks and straw bales. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include various animals, people, holidays, birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Monday - Saturday) - The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups. Museum hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday by appointment. Tours are $4 which includes souvenir magnet.
