SATURDAY - Historic Mine Site Celebration & Dedication - 1pm; The Wayne National Forest and the New Straitsville History Group will celebrate the completion of the Upstream Rock Run Project and dedicate a historic marker during a public ceremony. This American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) project in Perry County is located one mile north of the town of New Straitsville, Ohio on State Route 93. The goal of this Recovery Act project known as "Devastation to Destination" is to construct a healthy functioning riparian corridor, restore water quality, and create an integrated land management strategy. The project will increase the overall health of the watershed ecosystem, resulting in species diversity among the aquatic and wildlife habitats that once existed in the watershed. The local history group, in partnership with the Wayne National Forest, is coordinating the placement of an Ohio Historical Society marker at the restored site. The marker will commemorate the phenomenal story of the mine fire that was set by striking miners in 1884 and is still burning underground today. Because space is limited at the site, visitors are encouraged to car pool. Vans will be available to provide transportation to the site starting at 12:30 p.m. and departing from Hubert Dunkle Hall (New Straitsville). Following the ceremony, there will be light refreshments hosted by the New Straitsville History Group at Dunkle Hall. FREE

MONDAY - Corn Roast & Chesterhill Produce Auction - 2pm; Rural Action Sustainable Agriculture invites the public to a free community Corn Roast at the Chesterhill Produce Auction on Monday, July 2nd, 2012. Activities begin at 2:00pm, occurring alongside the Monday auction which begins at 4:00pm. A produce auction is a form of agricultural market where produce is sold at auction in a variety of quantities, to a variety of buyers. Produce Auctions offer a unique view of the production capabilities of some of our agricultural communities. The Chesterhill Produce Auction has become a destination in Southeastern Ohio and is a project of Rural Action Sustainable Agriculture. The goal of the Chesterhill Produce Auction is to increase local food production, and create public use agricultural infrastructure. WEDNESDAY - Thunder in the Valley - 10:00pm; At 8:00p.m. the public is invited to the Hocking College Campus to enjoy the evening. You can bring your own food or vendors will be available to sell you food and drink items. As everyone settles in at 10:00p.m., the THUNDER IN THE VALLEY", FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR will begin. This year's display will be presented by the Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce has promised a 25 minute display of shells, to dazzle all the senses, and sure to get uhs and oohs from everyone viewing the display. Fireworks will be launched from Hocking College. This year's display will be choreographed to music and simulcast by WXTQ, 105.5 FM. We are encouraging everyone to bring a radio and tune into the music so we can fill the hills with music and fireworks. Parking is available at Hocking College, and plenty of seating is available on the fields and lots. No Parking will be permitted on Hocking Parkway or State Route 691. Alcoholic beverages and grills are not permitted on the Hocking College Campus. The show can be viewed from most areas of Nelsonville as it lights up the hills of Southeast Ohio.

DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. SUNDAY, June 10th - War of 1812 Lecture - 2pm to 3pm; Chillicothe author Patricia Medert will present a talk titled "Raw Recruits: Ohio Volunteers in the War of 1812," which will illustrate what the war was like for Ohio militiamen and how central Ohio was impacted by this war. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business.
