Exhibit Opening; Music of the Little Cities: Coal Dust, Culture
& Cause for Congregation - 6pm to 10pm; Music was a staple
of life in the Hocking Valley Coal Fields during the boom-to-bust era
that created dozens of mining towns in Athens, Perry, Hocking and Morgan
Counties in the late 1800's, many of which are a shadow of their former
selves today. One thing that has not changed is that in good
times and bad, music has always been a constant and treasured contributor
to the culture of this region. The exhibit will feature images,
artifacts and interpretive panels on the theme developed by the Little
Cities of Black Diamonds Council. A Coal Town Soup Supper will
compliment the exhibit opening with various foods available for
sale. A Lobby Concert with live music by Kay Carter will begin at
7PM. There is no admission charge to this exhibit opening. The
exhibit is made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio Arts
Council. This opening kicks off the 11th Annual Little Cities
Appalachian Spring Celebration which will culminate with a
Chautauqua-style stage show at Stuart's Opera House on Friday evening,
April 19 featuring regional musicians and dramatic interpretation of the

Forest Rappelling and Climbing area offers a convenient location and an
excellent opportunity to be introduced to rock climbing and top rope

being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of
washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our
washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a
WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and
take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at
10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements
will be made for large groups. Museum hours are Monday through Friday
9:00am to 3:00pm and Saturday by appointment. Tours are $4 which includes
