FRIDAY, June 21st to SUNDAY, June 23rd - 4th Annual E.G.G.S. Hike - noon; The Buckeye Trail Association, in cooperation with the North Country Trail Association, Waynce National Forest, Little Cities of the Forests Collaborative, Sunday Creek Watershed Group and Burr Oak State Park, honors Emma "Grandma" Gatewood with a 24 hour Soltice hike.  Arrive Friday at 6pm, hike begins at noon on Saturday and ends at noon on Sunday.  This endurance hike consists of a 20+ and 40+ mile hike that needs to be completed in 12 and 24 hours respectively.  $40 for hikers; includes a BTA membership, t-shirt, bandana and Friday night camping.  Hikers completing the hike in 12 or 24 hours will also receive an EGGS Hike patch.  Hike will take place at Burr Oak State Park and Wildcat Hollow Backpack Trail.  For more information visit www.buckeyetrail.org/eggs.html

FRIDAY, June 21st - Music in the Park: Mike Seigler  - 7pm to 8:30pm; Summer concert series in its 21st season features eleven weeks of live music at the gazebo in Worthington Park in Logan, every Friday evening from June through mid-August. Bring lawn chairs as bench seating is limited. Food & beverages for sale in the park or bring your own picnic basket. No alcohol permitted. Portable restroom on site. Concerts generally occur rain or shine except in a severe storm. Concerts are free due to the generosity of local merchants, organizations and individual donors. FRIDAY, June 21st - An Acoustic Evening with Over the Rhine - 8pm - Ohio's own Over the Rhine played at Stuart's almost 6 years ago and has made a stop at the Nelsonville Music Festival as well - we're glad to have them back! SATURDAY, June 22nd - 45th Tour of Homes - Lancaster - noon to 5pm; This tour will feature an eclectic group of city and country homes, and provide a unique opportunity to visit a working vineyard and winery. The Lancaster portion of the tour can be done with a lovely walk in the neighborhood surrounding the Courthouse. SATURDAY, June 22nd - Trek Theatre: Scioto Station - Gate opens at 5:30pm; Trek Theatre presents live blue grass every Saturday night from June 22nd through August 31st.  Authentic Shawnee Storytelling begins at 6:15 P.M.  Bluegrass performances begin around 7:00 P.M.  Nestled in the pines alongside a forest trail and flowing stream, Trek Theatre is the most unique outdoor solo performance venue in Ohio. Stars sparkle over your head. Paddle east quietly until the moon rises on the horizon and transforms into a full moon, sending a stream of light across the water before you.  We'll paddle for two hours, with a stop along the way to have snacks. SUNDAY, June 23rd - Bird & Butterfly Walk - 9:30am; The Appalachia Ohio Alliance (AOA) is partnering with Columbus Audubon in sponsoring this first event at our newly designated conservation Demonstration Site in Rockbridge.  The walk will be led by Dave Horn, an experienced central Ohio birder and lepidopterist. Enjoy a meander though several habitat types where we expect to encounter many of the birds and butterflies typical of Hocking Hills forests and fields.  The walk will traverse a mix of prairie, forest and riparian habitats. Bring your own water or drink, sunscreen, hat, etc.... as needed. The walk will be held rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for the terrain and the weather.  We'll meet at the AOA Demonstration Site - at the intersection of US Hwy. 33 and Rockbridge Road A (County Road 10), just north of Rockbridge. THURSDAY, June 27th - The Stories of "YNO" Winebrenner - 7pm; William "YNO" Winebrenner is a worldwide-established writer whose stories are all true and leave your spine tingling. He resides in Stockport, Ohio, and started writing late in life with the encouragement of a friend he mesmerized with his folklore stories.  YNO has been a member of Marquis' "Who's Who in the World" for five years. SATURDAY, June 29th - 5k Foam Fest - 9am; Feeling a bit dirty from all the mud runs out there? Foam up your next run with the 5k Foam Fest! Imagine all the fun of running through mud & jumping over obstacles, mixed with the excitement of running through a giant car wash. You will be covered in mud up to your Adam's apple and then dodge through obstacles to emerge covered in suds. This race is more fun than a scrub in the tub on a Saturday night!  This event also features an amazing mix of pre-race activities to remind participants that fitness can be fun. SATURDAY, June 29th & SUNDAY, June 30th - 19th Annual Open House at Hocking House - 10am to 5pm; "A Garden Art Happening!" This is an annual event that invites guests to tour an artists's garden. Jean Magdich is a 30-year clay art veteran that has used her garden as a gallery space. Once each year, she and her husband open their private gardens area to the public, showcasing sculpture, art walkways and a variety of whimsical art objects accentuating their beautiful garden.   A selection of other talented craftsmen are on hand to show their creations. NOW through June 23rd  - Hidden Worlds Revealed at Starbrick Gallery - 5pm to 9pm; Photographer Jim Shirey's work with a macro-lens exposes a veiled and secreted world. NOW through September 1st - Gorgeous Threads, A World of Textiles - 10am to 4pm Tuesdays - Saturdays, Sundays 1pm to 4pm;  Textiles soften the hard edges of our world and serve to identify us. They allow us to decorate our homes and our bodies. They are often an expression of our artistic visions and our social relationships. This exhibition points up the great variety of materials, colors, techniques and uses around the world. Included are items from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe. Some of these fabrics have great visual impact when seen from a distance, others are a tour-de-force of detail and complicated structure. Delight in this presentation of a sampling of the myriad fabrics produced globally and housed in central Ohio collections. NOW through September 1st - Over the Rainbow - Glass Across the Color Spectrum - 1pm to 4pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays; This exhibit features a rainbow of colors throughout the exhibition of vintage and art glass and a private A collection of Bischoff Glass Companys handblown glass. The plant was located in Culloden, WV. The company opened there in 1922 and was operated by the family until the late 1960s.Various other handblown American glass manufacturers will display other rainbow colors of glass. Along with the exhibit there will be glass pieces designed by local handblown artists from our surrounding area. These artists will rotate their artistic pieces throughout the duration of the exhibition that will continue through September 1, 2013. SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS through October 27th  - Hocking Valley Scenic Railway Historic Train Rides - noon and 2:30pm; Our Noon train to Haydenville is the shortest trip of our trains. It operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day weekend and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. On the return trip after pausing in Haydenville, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. After a 30-minute stop at Robbins Crossing, the train returns to the Nelsonville Depot.   Duration of ride: Approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.  Our East Logan train is the longest of the regular weekend trains and operates every Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day and the last full weekend of October. The train departs the Nelsonville Depot for a round-trip ride along the historic Hocking River Valley. Along the way, we will pass through the historic company town of Haydenville, which was the last company town in Ohio. It was once part of a large brick and clay company known in its later days as NATCO. On the return trip to Nelsonville after pausing at the east end of Logan, the train continues past the Nelsonville Depot to Robbins Crossing. Robbins Crossing is a restored 1850s-era Ohio pioneer village operated by students, staff, and volunteers from Hocking College and is located at the south end of the Hocking College campus. SATURDAYS - Rappelling Trek - 10am; For mainstream climbers, rappelling is simply "the way down." For adventurous thrill seekers and first time visitors to the Hocking Hills it's an adrenaline rush unlike anything else. On the day of your rappelling trek, our expert guides walk you through the basics of safety, equipment, setup, technique and use of rappel devices. You'll begin on 20 to 30 foot walls and move to higher ground. Many first timers conquer Amazing Grace at 80' and some do Big Springs at 107' or Bent Tree at 120'. The experience is awesome. Equipment provided includes: helmet, ropes, rappel devices, adjustable harness and gloves. We meet at the Rappelling area parking lot at 9:30am. Be sure to review our website for FAQs and other things you'll need to know or bring. This four hour trek is only offered to able bodied people. Minimum weight is 80 lbs. - all kids must have a parent present. Rappelling treks can be scheduled for dates not listed, just call or email to arrange dates. SUNDAYS - Rock Climbing Trek - 10am; The Hocking State Forest Rappelling and Climbing area offers a convenient location and an excellent opportunity to be introduced to rock climbing and top rope climbing basics. Safety is our number one concern. Our expert guides are schooled and practiced in achieving and maintaining the highest safety standards. Beginners are taught basic setup, technique and use of rappel devices. You'll start out climbing 10 to 20 foot walls and may reach 40'. Experienced to advanced climbers will be surprised by the challenge and skill development opportunity this area provides. Review our website for complete details. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business.
