FRIDAY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum Grand Opening - 1pm dedication; The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum will open in its new home at the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and will be open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. Paul's wife, Charlotte, has graciously agreed to move the collection to the Welcome Center so more people will have the opportunity to view her late husband's amazing collection. SATURDAY - Warblers of the Gorge (for International Migratory Bird Day) - 9am; Join the Naturalist at the Naturalist Cabin behind Old Man's Cave Visitor Center for a 3-mile hike (6-mile round trip) to experience the return of the spring warblers and other avian species. Hocking Hills State Park is one of the best places for birding due to the unique ecosystem of the gorge, and this program is for beginner or long-time birders. This is a one-way hike to Cedar Falls (which is not for the easily-winded individual), and the Naturalist will then leave you to explore on your own. Hikers may return through the gorge on their own or arrange pick-up by friends at Cedar Falls. Bring along binoculars and a cool drink and come dressed for the weather. The founder of Hocking Valley Canoe Livery recently passed away from an eight year battle with breast cancer.
