FRIDAY, January 18th - Hocking Hills Adventure GeoTrail Launch Party - 6pm to 8pm; Hocking Hills Tourism Association is launching the first of three GeoTrails. Geocaches are located throughout the region. Get the new Adventure GeoTrail coordinates at the party and get a head start on completing the trail. First 100 to complete trail, collect all ten clues will receive a trackable geocoin. Refreshments, door prizes and one lucky winner will receive a Garmin eTrex 10! FRIDAY, January 18th - Pre-Winter Hike Stroll - 6pm; Join the naturalist at the Ash Cave parking area for an evening stroll back to Ash Cave. We'll discover together what makes this area so unique and poke into the history that surrounds this scenic area of the Hocking Hills. (Please, no pets at the night hike.) SATURDAY, January 19th - 48th Annual Hocking Hills Winter Hike - 9am to 11am continuous starts; Enjoy winter's splendor on this historic 6-mile trek from Old Man's Cave to Ash Cave. Layered clothing and good footwear recommended. Continuous starts from 9-11 a.m. Refreshments (bean soup & hot cocoa) are available at Cedar Falls for a donation. SATURDAY, January 19th - Logan Theatre Group Performs at Hocking Hills Resort - 6pm; Once again Hocking Hills Resort and Grouse Nest Restaurant will host a dinner theater featuring the Logan Theatre Group, which will perform "Café Murder," a mystery that includes audience participation. SATURDAY, January 19th - 4th Annual Cabin Fever Festival with Freakwater and more - 6pm; The weather is getting cold, so we are giving you an excuse to escape staying inside with the 4th annual Cabin Fever Festival! A full night of great music headlined by Freakwater (Thrill Jockey Records), Cotton Jones (Cumberland, Maryland), Tim Easton (Nashville via Ohio), and Dolfish (Cleveland), and more. THURSDAY, January 24th - Waterloo Owl Prowl - 6pm; Join the Raccoon Creek Partnership & Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist for a winter Owl Prowl at the Waterloo Aquatic Education Center. Starting at 6pm get cozy by a campfire and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows. We'll take an "up close" look at our nocturnal friends and then we'll go for an evening walk and try to call in our region's most stealthy predator - the owl! Bring a flashlight and be sure to dress for the weather. Please, no pets at the owl prowl. SATURDAY, January 26th - Arrival of Winter Photography Workshop - 9am to 5pm; Hands-on photography workshop that provides practical and usable knowledge in nature photography. Look for vendors selling produce, meats, eggs, cheese, jarred products, baked goods and lots more. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
