Naturalist Programs & Events
Wednesday August 4
10:00 AM * WEEKLY 5-STAR HIKE SERIES;
Cedar Falls - Each week we pick a new location to explore.
Meet at the Cedar Falls trailhead.

Friday August 6
3:00 PM *JEWELED DRAGONS – Join the naturalist
for a closer look at Hocking’s not so mythical dragonflies &
damselflies. These flying, crawling & swimming insects lead an
amazing life that we can peak in on. Meet at the main
playground in the camp (near site# 143) for a short stroll down
to Rose Lake.
9:00 PM *HISTORIC LANTERN TOUR of ASH
CAVE- The mystery of Ash Cave is special as far back
as the last Ice Age and beyond. Join the naturalist in
the parking lot area to explore Ash Cave by lantern light
and learn this special history first hand. We supply the
lights…you supply the imagination. (Please no pets at the
lantern tour)

Saturday August 7
10:00 AM *SCALAWAGS & RENEGADES -The Ohio
Frontier was full of heroes and shady characters. Meet at the
Shelter House at the Rock House to hike and explore our local
history.
2:00 PM CAMERAS & CRITTERS - Bring your camera
and join the naturalist on the Hock-Hocking Expedition Trail
located behind the Park Naturalist Office for a chance to
photograph up close & personal some of our wilder residents.
9:00 PM Mystery MOVIES in the CAMPGROUND
Is it Disney, Warner brothers or MGM…? Come to the
amphitheater located near the pool area and find out. Enjoy a
family fun movie under the stars.

Wednesday August 11
10:00 AM * WEEKLY 5-STAR HIKE SERIES;
Cantwell Cliffs– Each week we pick a new location to
explore. Meet at the Cantwell Cliffs trailhead.

Thursday August 12
2:00 PM FURS, FEATHERS, FEET & FANGS – Join
the naturalist at the Camp Amphitheater to discover the many
special wildlife adaptations and discuss how to search for signs
of the many species here at Hocking Hills.

Friday August 13
8:00 PM STAR SEEKERS SHOWER SEARCH –
Join the Hocking Hills State Park naturalist at Conkle’s Hollow
and we will show you the many unique features of our universe
while we watch for the annual Persied Meteor Shower. Come
for the viewing, crafts, games and fun. We also recommend a
pair of binoculars if you have them. (weather permitting)

Saturday August 14
10:00 AM*THE WONDERS of OLD MAN’S CAVE -
Meet the naturalist at the Naturalist Cabin for a short hike and
discover some facts about the history of the area and the rock
formations that are found throughout the park.
2:00 PM HOCKING’S BIRDS OF PREY - Join the
naturalist at the Naturalist Cabin for a closer look at Ohio’s
winged predators.
9:00 PM Mystery MOVIES in the CAMPGROUND
Is it Disney, Warner brothers or MGM…? Come to the
amphitheater located near the pool area and find out. Enjoy a
family fun movie under the stars.

Wednesday August 18
10:00 AM * WEEKLY 5-STAR HIKE
SERIES; Ash Cave – Each week we pick a new
location to explore. Meet at the Ash Cave trailhead.

Thursday August 19
2:00 PM GAMES OF THE PAST – Lets spend some
time learning games that were played many years ago . If you
would like to learn how to play different games or if you would
like to relive childhood memories meet with us. Gather at the
Naturalist Cabin.

Friday August 20
8:00 PM HAUNTED HOCKING: Spirits of Old
Man’s Cave – Is Old Man’s Cave really haunted or could it
be something else? Join the naturalist at the Old Man’s Cave
visitor center to explore the possibilities. (This program does
contain ghost stories…parents; you know your children best and
should decide if it is appropriate. Please, no pets at Haunted
Hocking.)

Saturday August 21
9:00 AM *THE CREATURES OF ROSE LAKE –
Join the naturalist at the Camp Shelter area to explore around
Rose Lake in search of who might use Rose Lake as their home.
2:00 PM HOCKING’S WILDLIFE at the CABIN –
As you pass by on your hike today, stop by the Naturalist Cabin
to explore and take a closer look at some of our native
residents. Naturalist will be available to explain and answer
questions.
9:00 PM Mystery MOVIES in the CAMPGROUND
Is it Disney, Warner brothers or MGM…? Come to the
amphitheater located near the pool area and find out. Enjoy a
family fun movie under the stars.

Wednesday August 25
10:00 AM * WEEKLY 5-STAR HIKE SERIES; Old
Man’s Cave– Each week we pick a new location to explore.
Meet at the visitor center.

Thursday August 26
10:00 AM FROGS, TOADS & TURTLES – Join the
naturalist at the camp amphitheater to see how beneficial our
slimy and scaly friends really are.
2:00 PM PRINTING WITH NATURE – Join the
naturalist at the Naturalist Cabin located behind the Old Man’s
Cave Visitor Center to learn how to make your own nature prints
using natural objects and ink. All materials provided. Hey kids,
for a special treat bring along $10 and do your printing on your
very own souvenir T-shirt. (T-shirt not required to participate)

Friday August 27
3:00 PM *SURVIVAL OHIO STYLE – Come to the
naturalist cabin and put your skills to the test. Or, just come
and cheer on your favorite team!
7:00 PM *ROSE LAKE CANOE EXCURSION – Join
the naturalist and the ‘HOCKING HILLS CANOE LIVERY’ for a
naturalist guided trip around Rose Lake. The trip will take
approx. 1 hour and will cover many aspects of canoeing safely
while we search the lake for wildlife. Space is limited so you
must pre-register at the camp office prior to the event! We will
meet at the dam at Rose Lake.
Saturday August 28
9:00 AM *TRAIL TROLLS PROJECT DAY -We will
meet at Rock House trail. Bring a sack lunch and a drink and
dress for the weather. For more information about the Trail
Trolls or to sign up contact the naturalist office at (740) 385-
8003 ext. 213.
