TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY - Family Roots Fall Fest - camping opens at noon; Welcome to the 2nd Annual FAMILY ROOTS FALL FEST!! Hear about Hocking Valley history as you pass the remains of industries, canal locks and other historic landmarks. SATURDAY - Grandma Gatewood's Fall Colors Hike - 1pm; Bring along a cool drink and celebrate the season's colors. Meet with the naturalist at the Old Man's Cave Visitor Center for a strenuous hike that spans roughly 6 miles of the Grandma Gatewood trail. We will be traversing the section that runs from Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls and back while enjoying the scenic beauty and cultural personality. This hike does include several hills and steps and is not recommended for the easily winded individual. (Approx. 3 to 4 hours.) SATURDAY - Sweet Second Saturday - 5pm to 8pm; On the second Saturday of each month, we dress up the dining room and have live music & great dinner specials. SATURDAY - LIVE AT THE OLDE DUTCH RESTAURANT - 5:30pm to 7:30pm; Dinner will be especially entertaining at the Olde Dutch Restaurant on Saturday, October 13th. SATURDAY - Halloween on the Hocking - 6pm; Corn mazes can be scary and haunted houses can be terrifying, but nothing compares to the thrill of Halloween on the Hocking! On this haunted night, we canoe a five-mile stretch under the creepiness of the full moon. Stay close together since we do not know who may be lurking around the river bend. Hot chocolate, snacks and music, along with a roaring bonfire, will be offered for those lucky enough to make it back from the canoe trip. SATURDAY - New Moon Glow Float - 7pm to 11pm; Paddle your canoe from sunset to darkness, lit only by the glimmering phosphorescent light of glow sticks reflecting on the water. End at the livery with a roaring bonfire and lively music meant for listening and dancing. BYOB. Reservations highly recommended. One glow stick provided. SATURDAY - "Almost, Maine" - 7pm. The NEW Logan Theatre Group will present Almost, Maine by John Cariani licensed by Dramatists Play Service, Inc at 25 N. Mulberry St. Logan, OH. The second floor of the Logan Theatre Building. (Not wheelchair accessible, must climb two flights of stairs.) On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. TUESDAY, October 16th - Autumn Musical Review Concert - 7:30pm to 8:30pm; Concert will highlight the church choir as a whole and include a number of individual and other vocal performance arrangements. THURSDAY, October 18th - Historic Downtown Logan Building Tour - See what is new and exciting in downtown Logan and explore the possibilities to launch your own business. The Circle of Life - 9am; Participants will be transported back in time through Shawnee stories and music, set against the backdrop of the Davis Group of Ancient Earthworks near Laurelville, Ohio. Storyteller Neeake (Fred Shaw) has been sharing stories since 1971. This event includes a naturalist-led hike with an archaeologist on hand to answer questions about the earthworks. THROUGH OCTOBER - Photographer's Choice Art Exhibit featuring the Hocking Valley Photography Group; Photographers are drawn to the Hocking Hills in all seasons, but October seems to reign supreme with the amazing fall colors of nature. Group members select three of their favorite photos for this show and have the opportunity to explain why they chose those particular pieces. (Group members meet monthly at the Bowen House on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm.) DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays at 11:30am and 1pm. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
