TONIGHT - The History of Lake Logan - 7pm to 8:45pm; B. J. King will present the history of Lake Logan, with the assistance of Richard Klinger and Jerry Hutchison. Located one mile south of the city of Logan, Lake Logan is a year round fishing, boating, bird watching, hiking and flood control lake. It encompasses 318 acres of land and 400 acres of lake, with a history as rich as the wildlife it shelters. FRIDAY - Final Fridays: Parade of Square Crows - 5pm to 9pm; Don't miss the Parade of Square Crows on display outside the shops of the Historic Square Arts District. FRIDAY - Starbrick Gallery presents "Girls & Guns" - 5pm to 9pm; This show is a satirical look at the surge of female interest in firearms. SATURDAY - Moonlight Tour at Hocking Hills Canoe Livery - 7pm; Paddle your canoe from sunset to moonlight, using the light of the moon as it reflects on the water. WEDNESDAY, October 3rd - An Evening with the Taj Mahal Trio - 8pm to 10:30pm; Stuart's welcomes Grammy winner and blues legend Taj Mahal to Nelsonville! Composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Taj Mahal is one of the most prominent and influential figures in late 20th century blues and roots music. His career began more than four decades ago with American blues, but he's broadened his artistic scope to include music representing virtually every corner of the world. $42 - $52. Now through September 29th - Hocking County Teacher's Exhibit; Art work created by the talented faculty of the Logan-Hocking School District will be on display until September 29th. SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Train Rides with Historic Village Stop - noon & 2:30pm; Take a leisurely trip on a passenger train dating back to the 1920s. Hear about Hocking Valley history as you pass the remains of industries, canal locks and other historic landmarks. The noon trip to Haydenville covers 14 miles roundtrip and the 2:30 trip to Logan is 22 miles roundtrip. Through 2012 - "Logan and Hocking County...A Timeline" New Exhibit at the Historical Society features several hundred years of the county's history condensed into four panels on display. The timeline includes Native Americans, the first settlers (1798), the Civil War, the Hocking Valley Railway, and more...up to the year 1917, when Logan celebrated its centennial. MONDAYS - Acrylic Painting Workshop - Join Artist Suzanne Hiser in painting flowers this 2 hour workshop on Mondays from 10am-12pm. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays at 11:30am and 1pm. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
