SATURDAY, February 2nd - Wild Weekend Discovery Series - Snowflakes - 10am and noon; "No two snowflakes are alike," or are they? Discover the mystery and fun that is created by snow at the Wayne National Forest Headquarters located off US Hwy. 33 between Nelsonville and The Plains.   Bring your children and enjoy this free fun-filled educational program that's designed for preschool to 5th grade. This one-hour program has two starting times; one at 10am and another at noon. Space is limited to 15 seats per session. Preregister for this special class by phone.  We will re-create a winter wonderland. Together, using magnifying glasses, we'll explore the different shapes and sizes of snowflakes and learn how weather conditions create different shapes. With cooperation from the weather, we will spend some time outdoors. We'll see how people make their own snow. Kids will have the chance to make a snowflake to take home. As always, please remember to bring your Smokey card if you have one. SATURDAY, February 16th - Valentine's Chocolate Choo Choo - 5:30pm; Come join us for our 3rd Annual Valentine's Chocolate Choo-Choo aboard the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway! Invite your Valentine or treat yourself to a sweet ride filled with great food, wine and beverages, entertainment and lots of sweets! This promises to be a hit for many more Valentines to come! DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups. Museum hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm and Saturday by appointment. Tours are $4 which includes souvenir magnet.
