SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Maple Sugaring in the Hills - noon to 4pm; "Maple Sugaring in the Hills" is the theme of the annual maple syrup festival at Hocking Hills State Park in Hocking County. The event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9. Maple sap from park trees will be used to make tasty treats that will be available for sampling in the Naturalist Cabin behind the Old Man's Cave Visitor Center. Naturalists will demonstrate the many historic methods used to make maple candy and syrup. A breakfast with all-you-can-eat made from scratch buttermilk pancakes is offered at the dining lodge on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $8.50 per person and includes local maple syrup, a topping bar with lots of pancake toppings, bacon and sausage. On Sunday, the lodge will also feature pancakes on their brunch buffet. Call 740-385-6841 to learn more.

THURSDAY, March 6th - Logan Theatre Group Monthly Meeting - 7pm; Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend meetings for discussion of future productions, various aspects of the performances, such as costumes, sets, promotion, acting.... If unable to attend the meeting but have an interest in participation, contact the theatre group at logantheatregroup@gmail.com or call Scot at (740) 279-6563. The group has big plans for the summer and would like to get as much of the community involved as possible! Location: Downstairs at the theatre building, NW corner of Main and Mulberry Streets. This group meets the first Thursday of each month.

FRIDAY, March 7th - TWIG II Homemade Soup Sale - orders due by 4pm; TWIGG II is now taking orders for Homemade Soup sold by the quart for $6 each. Choices are Bean Soup and Vegetable Soup. Corn muffins are also available - 4 for $1. Soup will be delivered to Hocking Valley Community Hospital on Tuesday, March 11th for pickup between 8am and 11am. Orders must be turned in by 4pm on Friday, March 7th to the Community Relations Dept or the Patio Shoppe at HVCH. Click here for the order form.

All proceeds from the Feb 28 dinner will benefit the Hocking Hills Inspire (Homeless) Shelter. Cost: (Dine in or Take Out) Adults: $8; children: $6; family (parents and children under 18); $25. In the Social Hall of St. John's Catholic Church, 351 N. Market Street. Entrance to social hall is located on the North Street side of the church.

JANUARY 25 - APRIL 13 - "My Best Friends are Potters" Ceramics From the Tim Frederich Collection; Tues - Sat 10am to 4pm; Sun 1pm to 4pm; Barbara Hunzicker and Hal Stevens, Curators. Dublin, Ohio ceramics artist Tim Frederich has been collecting the work of other internationally renowned potters for 45 years. Both functional and sculptural objects-some inspired by nature, others by ancient forms-have been selected for this exhibition. There are wheel thrown, carved, slab and pinch built pieces of stoneware clay and porcelain. Surfaces are sculpted and incised, salt glazed or fired in wood filled pits and wood, gas and raku kilns. Innovative glazes have produced finishes that range from matte to glossy to exquisite crystals, creating one-of-a-kind surfaces of breathtaking diversity. DAILY - SALT AND PEPPER SHAKER MUSEUM AT FIDDLESTIX; View several hundred vintage figural salt and pepper shaker sets at Fiddlestix Village; 24180 St. Rt. 93 just south of the St. Rt. 56/93 intersection. A changing display of shaker sets are arranged by categories on shelves in three large windows. Groups include, various animals, people, holidays birds, fish, tools, buildings, vacation souvenirs and many more. Most of the sets are from the 1940s to the present. A smaller window hosts a monthly special exhibit. The best viewing time is between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Viewers are invited at their own risk, and the exhibit is open unless there is snow or ice on the parking lot. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays by appointment. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
