SATURDAY - Hocking Hills Indian Run - 60K begins at 7 a.m., 40K beings at 8 a.m., other races have individual starts between 9 and 11 a.m.; 5K, 10K, 20K, 40K and 60K races beginning at the Hocking Hills State Park Dining Lodge, with the trail winding through vast wooded areas of the State Park and Hocking State Forest, crossing streams, deep gorges, shimmering waterfalls, lush forests and country roads, leading uphill and down. $25 - $35; Hocking Hills State Park Dining Lodge, 20160 State Route 664 S; call 740-385-2750 or visit www.1800hocking.com/indianrun for more info

SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Public Powwow in the Hocking Hills honoring Chief Logan - 10am to 9pm; Inter-tribal event honoring a Native American hero from the past - Chief Logan of the Mingo tribe on the eastern frontier - will present history and traditions. The powwow will feature Native American drums, food, dancers and vendors (including jewelry, art, crafts and clothing). Powwow proceeds will help Special Friends of Hocking County (program similar to Big Brother/Big Sisters). This is a family event, so no alcohol, drugs or large dogs are permitted. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Free primitive public on-site camping is available. SATURDAY - Starry, Starry Night - 6pm; 2012 Bowen House third annual gala fundraiser that will be held on the lawn. Guests will enjoy dinner, appetizers, and wine under the stars. In addition, a live and silent auction will be conducted. Items are needed for the auction. Local artists or owners of artwork are invited to donate a piece of artwork for the auction. THURSDAY, September 27th - The History of Lake Logan - 7pm to 8:45pm; B. J. King will present the history of Lake Logan, with the assistance of Richard Klinger and Jerry Hutchison. Located one mile south of the city of Logan, Lake Logan is a year round fishing, boating, bird watching, hiking and flood control lake. It encompasses 318 acres of land and 400 acres of lake, with a history as rich as the wildlife it shelters. SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Train Rides with Historic Village Stop - noon & 2:30pm; Take a leisurely trip on a passenger train dating back to the 1920s. Hear about Hocking Valley history as you pass the remains of industries, canal locks and other historic landmarks. The noon trip to Haydenville covers 14 miles roundtrip and the 2:30 trip to Logan is 22 miles roundtrip. Through 2012 - "Logan and Hocking County...A Timeline" New Exhibit at the Historical Society features several hundred years of the county's history condensed into four panels on display. The timeline includes Native Americans, the first settlers (1798), the Civil War, the Hocking Valley Railway, and more...up to the year 1917, when Logan celebrated its centennial. MONDAYS - Acrylic Painting Workshop - Join Artist Suzanne Hiser in painting flowers this 2 hour workshop on Mondays from 10am-12pm. DAILY - Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum - Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm; Sun 11am to 5pm; Rev. Paul Johnson began his collection over 20 years ago. His Pencil Sharpener Museum, previously located at his home, has been moved to the Welcome Center and is open daily. This amazing collection of over 3400 pencil sharpeners has been featured in national magazines and is reputed to be the largest collection in the United States. DAILY (Mon - Sat) The Columbus Washboard Company Museum and Gift Shop - There is so much history from our company and building's past that we wish to share it with everyone. The tour will not only provide historical information, but will also include the opportunity to observe the manufacturing of washboards, and participate in making music with the washboard. The factory will operate daily, as usual, with our washboards being produced one at a time by hand. We are the only manufacturer of washboards remaining in the United States. Our gift shop features our washboards, memorabilia and new line of vintage soaps. The Museum is a WiFi hotspot and offers snacks and beverages, for a place to relax and take care of business. Tours will be offered Monday through Friday at 10:00am, noon, and 2:00pm; Saturdays at 11:30am and 1pm. Special arrangements will be made for large groups.
